Using fast modems to locate Stainless Steel Ball Valves

A valve which opens by turning a handle which is attached to a ball inside it is also known as a ball valve. To source these valves takes a lot of time and effort on a companies purchasing team. Often hours are spent on the phone trying to locate these ball valves (Kugelhahn).

The solution to this problem is the use of fast modems within the work place, which enable staff to source the product without having to phone round an endless list of suppliers. Before our company had modems installed on our computing equipment it was decided by our directors that we would search the market for the best type of modem. We wanted a modem to be super fast, so that we could find ball valves for our priority customers in record time.

Firstly I did not know a lot about computers or about modems, and found that when researching these that there was a variety of types, speeds and models of modems.

Kilobits refers to the speed in which the modem is measured. We needed a high speed for sourcing stainless steel ball valves, so we were looking at getting one which was 128kbps and more. Money was also an issue and we had to stay within budget.

Faster modems are usually them which are connected to broadband, our company up until that moment in time had been using a dial up modem, which was not so good for surfing the net or doing anything other than reading emails. There was only one computer that could use our dial up connection, so this would have meant there could only be one person sourcing a product if using the internet.

I found that to run a broadband modem our computers would need to have a network card installed in them. Unfortunately most of our computers dated back to the mid to late 1990’s so non of them were going to be of any use.

I was told that DSL would be my best option to enable me to receive a fast modem speed. This would put me in good stead for sourcing my stainless steel ball valves and stainless steel pipes (Edelstahlrohre).

As a company we decided the best way forward would be DSL and that to give us the fastest speed we decided to update our computing system. After this was installed we found that working life got much easier.

Most of our purchasing staff had been on the telephones for most of the day sourcing stainless steel ball valves before the computer system and fast modem had been installed. Now they were finding that manufacturers of this product had lists on line, this allowed our purchasing staff to check that they had the correct quantity in stock, saving time. They now do all there ordering via email and this cuts down on the endless paperwork that there once was.

I can safely say that in installation of fast modems within our company, has certainly helped productivity and staff moral within the company.
